MapForsyth wins Innovation Award for Community Resources App

Forsyth County Government’s MapForsyth Department received a 2024 Civic Excellence in Innovation Award on August 8 at the North Carolina Association of County Commissioners (NCACC) Conference in Winston-Salem for its work on the Community Resources and Assets Application.

The interactive online app has locations and contact information for a variety of resources, including substance use treatment, educational resources, food and clothing, housing and financial assistance, support groups, childcare, free computer labs, bus stops and more. It’s searchable by address, keyword, and organization name. Mobile users can call or navigate to locations with a click of a button.

The map is available at bit.ly/CommunityResourcesMap.

MapForsyth is the Geographic Information System (GIS) department for the City of Winston-Salem and Forsyth County, which creates interactive online maps used for everything from looking up tax parcels to finding election polling places. These maps and apps can be found at mapforsyth.org.

MapForsyth Geographic Information Officer Shaylee Bowen and GIS Coordinator William Moore accepted the award.

“Community Resources and Assets is a true collaboration between our department and the service providers in our community,” said Bowen. “If you would like your organization added to the application, please fill out the ‘Suggest A Resource’ survey at the top of the application or contact our office directly.”

The Civic Excellence in Innovation Award from the NCACC and Civic Federal Credit Union had 60 submissions this year, and 13 projects from various North Carolian counties received the award.
