Develop your child’s love of reading with family storytimes now at Carver School Road Branch Library
Children ages six and under and their caregivers are invited to enjoy stories, songs, and movement activities that promote a love for books and reading with family and friends through Family Storytime. The fun starts Tuesday, March 3 at 10 a.m.
Carver School Road Branch's Family Storytime is structured around Every Child Ready to Read, a literacy program with five practices to support early language acquisition: talking, singing, reading, writing, and playing. At each Storytime, we will read picture books centered around a theme and give children a chance to engage in discussion by asking questions about what they are seeing on the page. We will also sing songs, play with manipulatives such as scarves, instruments, and rhythm sticks, and use dry erase boards to practice writing.
Family Storytime is designed for all children six and under so that siblings are able to learn and engage together. All activities will scale to meet participants where they are developmentally, so older children may be writing letters and some simple words on their whiteboards while younger attendees work on the fine motor skills of holding and drawing with a marker.
