Forsyth County Environmental Assistance and Protection

The Forsyth County Environmental Assistance and Protection is a local environmental agency based in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. The Department's main goals are the enforcement of local, state, and federal air quality regulations, air quality monitoring and forecasting for the Triad region of central North Carolina, and water quality monitoring. The Department is the lead agency for the development and implementation of the Triad Haze Cam project. Financial support for this website was provided by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Region 4.

Division of Air Quality - Air Awareness Program

Financial support for this project was provided by the North Carolina Department of Environment and Natural Resources through a contract to provide air awareness support in the Triad region of North Carolina. The Division of Air Quality (DAQ) is responsible for protecting and improving outdoor, or ambient, air quality in North Carolina. To carry out this mission, the DAQ has programs for monitoring air quality, permitting and inspecting air emissions sources, and educating and informing the public about air quality issues.

SciWorks-Science Center & Environmental Park of Forsyth County

SciWorks provided exhibit space for equipment and displays related to weather and air quality issues. SciWorks promotes scientific literacy, life-long learning and an appreciation of the sciences by providing innovative educational and recreational experiences for all people through interactive programs and exhibits, collections, an environmental park and unique facilities.

WXII-News 12

WXII News 12 has provided significant logistical support for this project. The Haze Cam equipment is located on the grounds of WXII’s transmission facility on Sauratown Mountain in Stokes County, and the cameras are mounted on the main broadcast tower. WXII personnel have been extremely helpful with the planning and implementation of this program, and continue to offer cooperation as future enhancements are planned.
