Gusty and dry northwesterly winds coupled with abundant sun has initiated some melting of sun exposed surfaces that were blanketed by yesterday's widespread snowfall, with air quality levels dropping into the middle Code GREEN range. After a very cold start to Monday morning, the Triad will observe a gradual warming trend that should help increase melting through mid-week, despite refreezing occurring after sunset each day. Gradual warming of the air mass will likely lead to stronger inversions enhanced by the remnant snow and ice, resulting in increasing particle pollution AQI that should peak in the lower Code YELLOW range by Tuesday. A sharpening upper level trough moving in from the west will bring an increased chance of rain to the Triad late Tuesday and early Wednesday, further aiding in ice/snow melt. Code GREEN air quality levels are expected once the precipitation clears off to the east as another colder air mass moves in through the day on Wednesday. (Payne)
